 I have bee asked so many times to make more scrubbies
Friends and family are hooked.. so much so they started to gift them as gifts...

I will admit I love them myself.. after years of using the same ones mine died.. ok the puppies getting into the laundry basket may have had something to do with that..

my bath pouf was a casualty in a separate incident.. time had finally come to set aside all other projects and make another batch of scrubbies..

a few changes have been made to make them even better than before...

Now each one has a worsted weight soft cotton side. The opposite side is still made from vintage acrylic.. but I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of the most coarse yarn that I have come across...  more than a dozen skeins.. not a pleasure to work with but as far as scrubbing goes well worth it.. I would not want to do a big item out of these however lol
I added the cotton to all of them.. in the past I only made a few here and there, as hubby kept stealing mine and taking them out to his shop to wash tires and such, I saw no since in it.. around here..
After my poor bath pouf was lost I kept forgetting to grab another one.. I had just made a larger scrubbie to use up the last bit of cotton in that color way.. I thought why not..
 IT WAS PERFECT..
a bit of body soap on the cotton side.. only needed to put soap on it once.. the scrubbie side was just enough to exfoliate comfortably...  hence the next change.. they are bigger now..

right now I have sets of three on my shop, will be adding other choices soon..

Very quick easy knit hanging hand cloth

This pattern is very easy, easier than the name lol

I needed a quick knit hand cloth I could hang off of the hook in our bathroom.
I don't like to reuse hand cloths after my guys dry their hands ( ugh ), nor do I like the paper towel option, too much waste.
Keeping in mind not wanting to be wasteful, I also wanted them to be on the small size. Enough to dry your hands, but not so big as to take a lot to wash. With needing another one each time someone used it, it needed to be easy.
With what they put towels through around here, it needed to be a little stronger than lace ones I've made in the past. I wanted it to come off the hook fairly easy as well, so I went with a larger loop to hang it from.
They are very close to my hot pads with a square bottom and not quite as tight of a guage.


Size 8 US needles
7 ½” by 7 ½”
Exact gauge is not essential to this project
42 yards 100 % cotton worsted yarn
k = knit
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
k2tog tbl = knit 2 stitches together through the back loop
Cast on 30 stitches
Knit about 5 inches or as long as you like
Decrease as following
K1, k2tog, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog tbl, k1
Next row knit
Stay in this manner until you reach 14 stitches next row
K2tog across
Knit one row, bind off leaving tail long enough to make crochet cord as long as you like, weave in end of cord at opposite end of bind off edge.
Weave in ends.

Cloth # 3 ( all white snowflake cloth )

This is a snowflake pattern, done in knit and purls. A quick, easy knit. High texture for good scrubbing.
I liked the texture so I made one in variegated yarn as well, you can't really see the pattern, but it does clean well : )
DH#1 came up with the pattern in a blink of the eye, he saw me restarting again and took pity on me ( he was already working on a pattern for me as it was lol )
When I got done with this one he liked it well enough, but said he was thinking of the pattern in color. Pattern # 4 coming soon.

About this line of cloths

I'm in need of cloths, not fancy, pretty "don't use" type cloths, but "I live with an auto mechanic" type cloths ; )
My guys are the kind who tend to get their fingers dirty ( to say the least ). They don't like to use girlie things, cloths included.
I see naming patterns as the hard part of making them. So these are going to be numbered. Each one will be suited to whatever need be around here. I hope you find some of them if not beautiful, useful.

This cloth was made with my guys in mind. Not fancy or lacy, dark colored to hide stains, with two multi twisted cables to aid scrubbing power. Very easy and quick knit.

Jury Duty

Here in New Mexico when called for jury duty you serve for 3 months. First they send you a form to fill out ( most of the time giving you a day or two to get it back to them ). The next month you have to go sit there for a 2 hour ( minimum ) orientation. The next month is when your service begins. You get a calender telling you what days to call and see if you have to go sit down there or not. You can be asked to serve every 3 years ( 3 months each time ).


DH and I both get called every 3 years like clock work. I have sat on 3 trials, DH has sat on 3 now as well. We both find it very taxing. The last trial I sat on was unbelievable, I was told by a little old broad that I was a disappointment to all women because I didn't want to hand over a large sum of money to another woman never mind that she didn't deserve it. That was her nice side, she got sweeter as time went on. ( the woman didn't get a large sum of money, turns out she could have got quite a bit more with the settlement that have been offer to her )


DH is in his last month of his service, I went for my orientation this week. While I was sitting there with nothing to do but wait, I started to think about knitting, yeah I know go figure. Anyhow I thought it would be funny if I made DH a cloth or two with a jury duty theme to celebrate the end of his service. You know cleaning up crime, one dishcloth at a time ; )




This is a very simple, mini, pattern, seed stitch boarder, knit and purl "scale of justice" type thing.

Tunnel Lace Cloth

Tunnel Lace Cloth


This cloth was made using the Tunnel lace stitch found in one of the Harmony guides with a simple knit stitch broader.

Very quick and easy to knit up. By keeping your stitches on the loose side with the yarn overs in the first row the second row is much easier to knit. It also helps with the p3togs, in the forth row. So keep it nice and relaxed.

Size 8US needles
64 yds ( approximately ) worsted weight cotton shown in Sugar & Cream’s Summer Set

Hemp Soap Bag

I tend to knit things we need or want, this one is both. A hemp soap bag. Brent was always going on about the soap pieces in the tubs. So he needed the bag and I wanted to hush him up ; )

This one is made with one color, the pattern has two.

Chest Cover Bathing Cloths

Sometimes the simplest patterns can make life a little nicer. This is one of the simplest cloths your bound to come across, but if you have a water saving tub ( very small ) and still like to soak this just might be the cloth for you.

9 ½” by 16” with trim

78 yards worsted weight cotton ( main color )
28 yards worsted weight cotton ( trim ) 106 yards together

Size 10 US needles

Size I US crochet hook
4 sts. by 6 rows to one inch

Straight stitch = Knit one row, purl the next continue in this manner.

DC = double crochet

Straight stitch for 80 rows, or to fit your size, bind off.

Trim is optional, I added a double crochet stitch in every stitch along edges ( 3 in corner stitches ) This will give you a slight ripple while adding enough weight to help hold in place while in water. It also works with the straight stitches natural tendency to curly inward, which really makes this cloth work so well for covering one chest while soaking.
