Deviled chicks

We've been getting a fair amount of eggs each day now, so for Easter this year I decided to make deviled chicks...

They are a bit trickier than standard deviled eggs that are just cut in half and filled, but so worth it :D

I knew I wouldn't be putting paprika on the top so I spiced them up a bit more than I usually do...
The eyes are bits of black olive, beaks are carrots.. to make them stand I cut the bottoms flat.... placed in a bed of home grown greens... they didn't last long... next time I may have to make a few more :)

Draw string crochet pouch

Draw string crochet pouch

I used worsted weight scrap yarn for this bag, changing color often, I listed where I changed colors in this pattern but colors can be changed at any end of round. I didn’t keep track of the amounts of yarn used, however it wasn’t much of each.

Exact gauge is not essential to this project, I used a size G ( 4,25 mm ) hook for the pouch and K ( 6.50 mm ) for the draw string.

Each instruction for individual rounds are listed by number until the bottom center where you will continue until bottom is closed.

I’m sure you can use any stretchy foundation stitch you like, I found this one to be easy to do with a nice look…

Foundation stitch

Chain 2, insert hook under top 2 loops of second chain from hook, yarn over hook and pull up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through one loop on hook, yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops on hook ( first foundation stitch made ), * insert hook under top 2 loops of chain at the base of previous foundation stitch, yarn over hook and pull up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through one loop on hook, yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops on hook repeat from * for a total of 38 times

After completing the foundation join together to form a ring with a slip stitch ( all rounds are joined with slip stitches )

1 - 2 ) chain 1, single crochet to end of round

3 ) using new color chain 2 ( counts as first double crochet ), double crochet into base of first chain just made, chain 1, skip next chain, * double crotchet twice in next chain, chain 1, skip next chain* repeat to end ( this round makes the openings for the draw string )

4 - 5 ) chain 1, single crochet to end of round

6 ) change color chain 2, double crochet to end of round

7 ) chain 1, single crochet 3, skip 1 chain, * single crochet 4, skip 1 chain * to end of round

8 - 9 ) chain 1, single crochet to end of round

10 ) change color chain 1, single crochet 2, skip 1 chain, * single crochet 3, skip 1 chain * to end of round

11 ) chain 1, single crochet to end of round

12 ) chain 1, single crochet 3, skip 1 chain, * single crochet 4, skip 1 chain * to end of round

13 ) chain 1, *single crochet 1, skip 1 chain * repeat without slip stitching between round until bottom of bag is closed, fasten off.

Weave in ends, closing slight gap in foundation and bottom with tail ends.

Using 3 strands of yarn and larger hook make a chain cord long enough to weave through openings for draw string.

If you find any issues with this pattern please feel free to leave a comment informing me :D oh other than it being fully written out instead of abbreviations lol I’ll start using them when I get the hang of crochet a bit better :D

Egg scrubbie dish cloth

I love acrylic scrubbies for their scrubbing power over plain cotton
basic scrubbie pattern

but they do not absorb at all. I made scrubbies with both cotton and acrylic that work well however I needed a few new dish cloths... why not make one with a scrubbie center :D

The best yarn I've found to use making scrubbies is rough low cost acrylic... I used to use Redheart but most of what I find in the stores are not as rough as they used to be... I've been lucky to have been gifted some by family and friends... it holds up to unbelievable levels of nasty cleaning... hubby uses them to clean tires lol I only have to make new ones every few years... I was also gifted a unused skein of white yarn with this label
in like new condition, date on the label reads 1988... this yarn makes the old Redheart seem downy soft lol...       I like smallish dish cloths so it's just bigger than my hand...

Acrylic is only used in the center of the pattern.

This is a very easy pattern using just the knit stitch.

Size 8 US needles

Exact gauge is not essential to this project

I didn’t get a count on yardage, it doesn’t take much though. Not even half a ball of Peaches & Crème worsted weight 100% cotton, and a few yards of acrylic.

K = knit

Cast on 31 stitches using cotton yarn

Knit 5 rows

6 ) k14, pick up acrylic yarn knitting with both yarns k3, k14 with only cotton yarn

7 ) k14, bring acrylic yarn to back k3 with both yarns, k14 only cotton yarn

8 - 11 ) k13, bring acrylic yarn to back k5 with both yarns, k13 only cotton yarn

12 - 15 ) k12, bring acrylic yarn to back k7 with both yarns, k12 only cotton yarn

16 - 21 ) k11, bring acrylic yarn to back k9 with both yarns, k11 only cotton yarn

22 - 25 ) k12, bring acrylic yarn to back k7 with both yarns, k12 only cotton yarn

26 - 29 ) k13, bring acrylic yarn to back k5 with both yarns, k13 only cotton yarn

30 - 31 ) k14, bring acrylic yarn to back k3 with both yarns cut acrylic yarn leaving enough to weave in end, k14

Knit 5 rows

Bind off, weave in ends.

thankful

Last year was the hardest year I've faced in many ways

I spent many hours in a park

standing by a tree knitting one day I asked my Angels for help

yes I am pagan...
yes I believe in Angels

stay strong be happy in spite of everything

work on what you need to

 help the ones you can

we are doing what is needed

listen and you will be guided

I believe and trust my guides
so that's the path I followed

much time has passed now...
things are brighter
happier
peaceful

I stopped at this park not long ago
watching my guys
happily walk our doggies
I thanked
my Angels

hardly believing all we'd been through
when I looked down a saw a pink sparkle deep in the grass...

even though it was brisk outside and it was covered with moisture in the shadow of another tree
it was warm to the touch

the cross was missing it's center stone but other wise undamaged and remarkably clean

I've since replaced the missing stone with a crystal
fits as if made for it
I will hold this dear to me not because it's a cross but
because I know they heard me

life is good

update

Okay I'll admit it I'm a sucker for yarn on clearance... okay fine any deal on yarn...
I couldn't help it less than half price... just over 2 bucks.. I've seen this yarn in stores for a while and always wondered what on Earth could you make from it other than a funky scarf.. it reminds me of the hats my grandma wore lol
It is not as quick to work up as you'd think with it's bulkiness those balls really slowed me down... no matter what size needle I used they still hung low... I reknit it a few times not liking the cowl or scarf... until it hit me.. this would make a fun bag...

well at least I hope it will... as I don't want to reknit it again lol I'll update if it works out otherwise.... yeah
and to think this is the only knitting I've been doing in ages ....

I've been working on  dish scrubbies...    just playing not really bothering with patterns... cotton center with acrylic leafs and trim for better scrubbing power..
and the granny squares are starting to add up...small ones
and others... I'm making many different sizes for my wrap...

Happy Valentines Day

Earrings and matching necklace

dish scrubbies

I've been having so much fun playing with crochet :D
I'm still working with stitches and tension haven't really spent any time on learning the ins and out of witting the patterns out yet... so here's what I did to make the hearts hope you all can understand what I mean :D
All hearts were made with the same stitch pattern using different sized hooks and yarn...
two strands of worsted held together for the scrubbies with size N-9.mm
the earrings and necklace are made with crochet thread size 10 using hook size B1-2.25mm
I didn't get any yarn amounts or gauges

Chain 5 join in the round into the first chain with a slip stitch

Chain 3, double crochet once ( all stitches on this round are done through the center of the of ring ), treble crochet twice, double crochet five times, treble crochet once, double crochet five times, treble crochet twice, double crochet once, chain 3, slip stitch into the ring....

on the earrings I chained 10 for the hanging ring and slip stitched into the ring.

the necklace and the red scrubbie I single crochet around the edge... the pink one I put a half crochet on the bottom to make the point stand out a bit more
the necklace chain is 100 chains for each side
