Boot slippers crochet

My mother asked for a warm pair of socks with a wide ankle .. thinking slippers would keep her warmer.. I put these together.. very easy ..can be made to any size using any yarn and hook
I used two strains of worsted weight yarn for added thickness and a N 9.00mm hook with these

Make your foundation chain long enough to go around the bottom of your heal and up to the height you want them on both sides.. I went with 15 inches as she didn't want much above her ankle
single crochet until you have the width needed to reach around your ankle/heal, to the upper part of your foot,  she said loose so I went pretty wide, 13 rows

with out cutting the yarn, fold in half slip stitch the seam together leaving the bottom part open enough to fit your foot through..
Single crochet around the opening to make the foot/toe part.. single crochet 2 together the last two rounds fasten off.. slip stitch the back heal part .. make another to match.. helps to write down how many chains you started with and rounds you did if you're like me and forget by the time you've been interrupted a million times lol .. think I'm going to go make me a pair or two...

Super Bulky Slippers

My guys liked their slippers so much I thought I'd share the pattern it with you all.
I got the idea for these from a really nice book Socks, Socks, Socks. They have a very pretty lacy pattern for ladies slippers called S.O.S. They use the flat knit heel and in the round for the rest of the foot technique.
However I don't have little girls, I have large boys. Large footed boys. Who don't wear lace ; )
I also prefer the knit stitch to continue for the whole of the pattern, and wanted them to be much stronger and thicker.

I went with 2 strains held together through out. One of bulky homespun and the other a worsted weight acrylic yarn. I tried Simply Soft in gray with one pair. I do not recommend this, as both Homespun and Simply Soft spilt quite a bit even with the large needles. They did come out really soft and thick. I'm told they are very comfy. So I guess they were worth the effort. I went with Caron's worsted weight for the second pair. Much easier to work with only one yarn splitting, and just a bit thicker so they came out pretty good too. I do think I'll go with a different bulky yarn altogether for the next pair.

The first part of this pattern ( heel ) is worked flat then seamed up the back. The foot and toes are worked in the round.
I used the magic loop method for this pattern. The cuff is optional, pattern works quite well without it.

130 yards ( cuff included ) of each worsted weight and bulky weight . I used Lion Brand’s Homespun in Mediterranean held together through out with Caron’s ( one pound )Forest green. I used Simply Soft in gray for the pair without cuffs.

Gauge 3 stitches by 4 rows
Size 10 US circular needles
Fits men's 11 to 12 ½ US shoe size

Stitches
K = knit
K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
P = purl
1 by 1 ribbing = knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, repeat. Always purling the purl stitches and knitting the knit stitches. Continue in this manner

Cast on 30 stitches using both yarns through out.

Knit 4 ¾ inches ( flat ) or until you get just past the ankle. This creates the opening for the foot. You want to make sure it will fit over the heel when seamed.

Join in the round. This will be the start of your round.

25) purl
26) k3, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k3

Grafting the toes

You’ll need to change the placement of your loop to graft the toes. Purl the first 4 stitches of the round. Rearrange loop so you have 7 stitches on the top of the foot and 7 on the bottom with the last purled stitch being the stitch on the bottom right. Graft toes.

Sew up back of the heel and weave in ends.

Optional cuff
Pick up stitches starting at the back of the heel along the foot opening do 1 by 1 ribbing for 1 ½ inches. Bind off loosely. I used the Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind-off on Knitty.com

Magnet Bed Socks

Now you can purchase add free pdf in my ravelry store

My father has been using magnets for pain relief for years now.
I made him some anklets, but he was having trouble with wearing them at night.
He had a semi truck run over his ankle when he was young ( they had to roll it over his ankle again to get him unhooked from between the tires ) he is very lucky to even still have a foot. They didn't think he would ever walk on it again, but before he was even out of the cast he was up and running. However it did leave him with pain most of the time.
So a bed sock seemed like just the answer. It's pretty basic with a few little changes here and there.

Magnet Bed Socks
Fits men’s shoe size 10 to10½ US.
200yds worsted weight yarn ( I used Redheart Super Saver in black )
Size 6US & 8US dpns. Set of 5 each
24 small disk shaped bead magnets with holes for sewing
Sewing needle ( small enough to go through the beads )
Black thread
Yarn needle
Gauge 4sts. by 6 rows = 1”
Cast on 40
place on four size 8 dpns evenly. Being careful not to twist stitches
Cuff
1 by 1 ribbing for 5”
Knit even for 1 ½ ”
Heel Flap
Knit needle # 1 with sz. 6 dpns, turn and sl 1, purl all the way across needles # 1 and # 4, keeping all heel stitches ( 20 ) on one needle. You will not be working with needles # 3 & # 4 for the heel flap.
Work heel flap for 2 ½ ” as follows
Sl 1, k to end
Sl 1, p to end
End with a knit row.
Round heel
Sl 1, p11, p2tog, p1 turn
Sl 1, k5, k2tog, k1 turn
Sl 1 at the start of each row, knit or purl ( depending on the row your on ) to one before gap, decrease over gap, knit or purl one more stitch and turn.
Repeat until all stitches have been worked ending with purl row ( decrease will be the last stitch )
Gusset
Pick up stitches along gusset ( still using smaller needles ), making one stitch on each side of heel flap ( using the bar between ) knitting into the back loop of all picked up stitches, to avoid holes.
I kept to the smaller needles on the soles and larger on the tops of the feet to give a stronger sole, yet stay a little more “roomy” on top.
After picking up stitches on right side, knit across needles # 2 & # 3 using sz. 8 dpns. Then pick up stitches on left side ( needle # 4 ).
Knit to center of heel using needle # 4, place stitches back on 4 dpns, by sliding the other half of the heel stitches to needle # 1. You should have half the heel stitches and the gusset stitches on needle # 1 ( sz. 6 ). 10 stitches on needle # 2 & # 3 each ( sz. 8 ) and the other side gusset and heel stitches on needle # 4 ( sz. 6 ).
Knit one round.
Start gusset decreases
Knit to last three stitches of needle # 1 then k2tog, k1. Knit across needles #2 & # 3 to needle # 4, k1, k2tog through the back loop, k to end of round.
Knit next round.
Keep decreasing in this manner until you have 10st.s left on gusset needles.
Knit for 6”, switch to all smaller sized needles, knit for ½ ” ( for a total of 6½ “ from end of heel ) this adds to the strength for the tops of the toes.
Toes
Needle # 1: k to last 3 sts., k2tog, k1.
Needle # 2: k1, ssk, k to end of needle.
Needle # 3: k to last 3 sts., k2tog, k1.
Needle # 4: k1, ssk, k to end of needle.
Knit next round.
Repeat decreases until you have 6st.s remaining on each needle. Graft together, weave in ends.
Adding magnets
I used 12 small disk shaped magnetic hematite beads sewn flat onto the wrong side of the ankle. When sewing magnetic beads in make sure to do so individually as well as all the way around each bead. This will assure your stretch ability and keep them securely in place.

Warning : Magnets should not be used with persons with pacemakers or insulin pumps, as well as pregnant women.

Halloween socks

I looked in my sock drawer the other day and realized I had no Halloween socks. So out came the orange and black. I tried a round heel this time.

As I was looking at my socks I came across the slippers my grandmother made 30 years ago. I made a pair, but still need to spruce them up a bit.

I also made a bag. It started out a scarf, but it just needed to be a bag ;)

I did start the pattern over, with a different yarn. Maybe it'll make it into a scarf. We'll see.

I made some wash cloths and hand towels with borders, for my mother.

I got a hot pad/dishcloth done yesterday. I like them on the small side, so it didn't take long.
Still using the yarn from my stock pile.
It's starting to go down in size as my Christmas gifts bag over flows yahoo :)

My son gave me this yellow rose : )
