Heart Lace Bath Mitt

This bath mitt is made as part of a set, so the hearts match the washcloth and soap bag. There is a heart on each side, so it can be worn on either hand.
48 yards worsted weight cotton yarn, shown in Peaches & Crème’s Shaded Pastels.
Size 8 & 9US dpns. I used the magic loop method ( sz. 9US ) on the main part of the mitt, and sz 8US dpns on the wrist and thumb.
About 12’ of scrap yarn for thumb.
Gauge 3 ½ sts. by 5 rows per 1”
Kf/b = knit in the front and back of the next stitch.
M1 = pick up bar in between stitches, knit through back loop.
Skp = slide one knitwise, knit the next stitch, pass the slid stitch over the knit one.
K2tog = knit the next 2 stitches together.
K4tog = knit the next 4 stitches together.
Yo = yarn over needle.
Cast on 32 sts. Using size 8 needles.
Join in the round. Work k2, p2 for 2”. Place marker to show beginning of round if needed.
Knit 8 rounds using size 9 needles.
Row 1: kf/b, k3, kf/b, knit to end of round.

Row 2 : knit.
Row 3 : kf/b, k5, kf/b, k1, yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, skp, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, skp, yo, k1.
Row 4 : knit.

Row 5 : using scrap yarn knit 9 stitches, then slide back onto your left hand needle

Scrap yarn will be “holding” your thumb
You should be at the start of the row again knitting over the scrap yarn. k11, ( yo, k4tog, yo, k3 )x 2, k2, yo, k4tog, yo, k3, yo, k4tog, yo, k2.
Row 6 : knit.
Row 7 : k2tog, k5, skp, k2, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, skp, k5, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, skp, k2.
Row 8 : knit.
Row 9 : k2tog, k3, skp, k1, k2tog, yo, k7, yo, skp, k3, k2tog, yo, k7, yo, skp, k1.
Row 10 : knit.

Row 11 : k5, k2tog, yo, k9, yo, skp, k1, k2tog, yo, k9, yo, skp.
Row 12 : knit.
Row 13 : k1, k2tog, k3, yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, skp, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, skp, yo, k1.
Row 14 : knit.
Row 15 : k6, ( yo, k4tog, yo, k3 )x 2, k2, yo, k4tog, yo, k3, yo, k4tog, yo, k2.
Rows 16 and 17 knit.
Row 18 : k2tog, knit to end of round.

Row 19 : knit.
Row 20 : ( k2tog, k13 )x 2.
Row 21 : knit.
Row 22 : ( k2tog, k12 )x 2.
Row 23 : knit.

Row 24 : ( k2tog, k11 )x 2.
Row 25 : knit.
Row 26 : ( k2tog, k10 )x 2.
Row 27 : knit.
Place stitches evenly on two dpns, graft off.
Thumb
The decreases ( and top gusset ) are placed in such a manner as to leave a “web” between thumb and hand.

Remove scrap yarn, placing on two size 8 dpns, start your round on the right side of the stitches, place marker if needed to show beginning of round, adding a third dpn as you go.
Row 1 : m1, k9, m1, k10.
Row 2 : knit.
Row 3 : k11, k2tog, k2, k2tog, knit to end.
Rows 4 and 5 : repeat last row.
Rows 6 thru 9: knit.
Row 10 : k2tog to last stitch k1.
Row 11 : knit.

Row 12 : k2tog to end.
Cut yarn leaving tail long enough to go through remaining stitches, then pull tight weave in end securely on the in side. Weave in any other ends.
